Yes. The outdoor sensor needs 3 AA batteries. The console runs on the included power adapter, or on 3 AA batteries if you'd like it cordless.

On a pole or railing in an open area of your yard, clear of walls and trees, and within about 330 ft of the console.

Outdoor temperature is accurate to about ±1.8°F and humidity to ±5%. Because it measures your exact spot, readings can differ from area forecasts, which is exactly the point.
